Shaker Brilliance
The challenge of this kitchen renovation was to open up the space and connect the kitchen to the rest of the house. One of the biggest problems of the previous (old) kitchen was the peninsula that divided the space and made it small and dysfunctional. There was no proper flow and insufficient cabinet storage.
First challenges of opening the space were the beams which where disguised by decorative posts and panelling. The island was connected to one of the half walls and to highlight the start of the kitchen and at the same time have a smooth transition from wood to tile a walnut countertop was used for the raised portion of the island. Decorative island posts have pull outs and provide beauty and function. The lower area of the island had matte finish concrete countertops that were also used on the rest of the kitchen. Original window location was in a good spot, however in order to increase cabinet storage a small pretty round window was put in for light and view of the person working in that workspace. Round interesting attractive lights where used with half arched upper cabinet doors to support a round window in a square clean line shaker kitchen. Round shapes catch the eye and at the same time soften the look of the kitchen. A small bar area was made adjacent to the kitchen where we place a Viking wine cooler with some glass which acts a piece of furniture gives additional storage for overall connects to the whole design.
